A Greater Covenant – Hebrews 8
Because of our new covenant in Christ, we no longer need a TEMPLE! Since in prayer we get to freely walk into the Father’s throne room… with all our requests. Because of our new covenant in Christ, we no longer need a PRIEST! Since Jesus is our Great High Priest and He knows us all our needs better than we know our needs. Because of our new covenant in Christ, we no longer need to DO IT ALL IN OUR OWN STRENGTH! Since now God’s Spirit lives deep inside every genuine Christian.
Our Greater Salvation – Hebrews 7:1-28
The extended treatment of Melchizedek in Hebrews 7 is another plea from the Author to not for his audience not to slip back to the temple worship of the Old testament, don’t slip back to Old Testament Judaism — don’t do that because we have Jesus, who is am all together better High Priest than Israel ever had.
Hebrews 5:11-6:8 – A Greater Hope
As if the writer could feel the eyes of the audience glazing over, he stops his exegesis about Jesus’ priesthood for a moment to address them directly; to try and rattle them a little; to wake them up… to help them Grow Up and stop running backwards!
